Founded in 1986 Equal Exchange is the worker co-operative who helped pioneer Fair Trade food and beverages in the U.S. The co-operative has been instrumental in demonstrating Fair Trade's economic and marketplace viability and has been one of the first to bring Fair Trade in new agricultural sectors such as tea and cocoa. Jewish Vegetarians of North America (JVNA) promotes vegetarianism based on basic Jewish values in the Jewish community and beyond. United Poultry Concerns (UPC) is an organization that addresses the treatment of chickens and other domestic fowl in food production, science, education, entertainment, and human companionship situations and promotes the compassionate and respectful treatment of domestic fowl. Animal Acres is a Los Angeles farmed animal sanctuary and compassionate living center. The organization works to promote farmed animal protection through direct rescue, education, and advocacy efforts.    Animal Acres is directed by Lorri Bauston, considered the "pioneer" of the farmed animal sanctuary movement. Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary provides permanent, high-quality sanctuary care for New World monkeys cast-off from the pet trade, retired from research, or confiscated by authorities.
