Great article and comments. I've thought about this much before and my most recent memory was when I and four others protested the Carson & Barnes Circus that was in Tallahassee a few weeks ago. Now, I know this is not uncommon, but it's relevant to the article above - various hateful things were yelled at us while standing on a street corner holding protesting, things like: "Get a job," "Get a life," You suck," and other random crap. The clincher was that as many of the people in cars that heckled us passed, we could see an Ichthys fish stuck to the bumper. Yeah! I bet Jesus would have expressed his antipathy for those opposed to the unnecessary and cruel slavery of animals by yelling at us. I just wanted to ask these people if they went to church on Sunday (one of the protest days) and if they said, "Yes," tell them that it didn't do much good and that they should reconsider being in their religion. Never got the chance though. Regarding the remarks, apparently these people think: a) since we were out there for an hour for each of the 7 shows that weekend that we have no job, we just sit around for the rest of the year until the next time the circus is in town, and b) that standing up for your beliefs is not having a life. It's sad and pathetic that a good number of people feel this way about others who are fighting for the animals. Very sad.
I love this site, whenever I read some stupid comments online about people hating ARAs I come here and read these positive articles. Thanks, VeganWorld. |
