Do a search on vegetarianism and veganism and you will find a wealth of information. Nowadays there are numerous genres of books, each genre dealing with specific aspects of a vegan and vegetarian lifestyle. Health and weight control, animal welfare, theology and spirituality, recipes and cooking, philosophy, the environment … and the list goes on. You name it and it’s out there. And, while there’s something to be gained from almost any book you read (on this topic or any other for that matter), there are a few classics that land on your bookshelf, get recommended to friends and get read again and again.
As VeganWorld.com made its debut, we decided to find out which books ranked highest with our members. 161 members of VeganWorld.com participated in the survey, and here’s how the numbers stacked up:
• The China Study ………………………….. 37 votes
• Diet For A New America ………………… 36 votes
• Vegan Cupcakes take Over The World …... 36 votes
• Skinny Bitch ……………………………… 30 votes
• The Real Forbidden Fruit …………………. 22 votes
As far as I’m concerned each has an honored place on my coffee table for a different reason. They all spark conversations and inspire critical thinking about the choices we make. And - especially in the case of Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World - they all leave me with a good taste in my mouth.
As the author of The Real Forbidden Fruit, I feel it is my duty to say that I think this poll was rigged. I think I saw some hanging chads … recount!
So, which book is your favorite? Did we leave one off the list? Drop me a line with your comments. Also, feel free to check out the latest poll at www.VeganWorld.com.
